After limited success with earlier versions of a semi-automatic rifle, the G43 combined relative reliability and easy of production. Sometimes called "Hitler's Garand", this is an exaggeration as it never came close to the impact the Garand made on the battlefields of WWII. The Rifle went through several refinements to improve function and reduce costs. Later Models carry the designation K43, although the name change did not directly correspond to any particular design change. The G43 was sometimes equipped with optics for use as a sniper.
