PPK is for Pistole Polizie-Kriminale.  A smaller lighter version of the PP it was designed for concealed carry.  It is still manufactured today.

 The most recognized pistol in the world.

Adopted by Germany in 1908 it was the standard sidearm until 1938, and remained a favorite of many officers through WWII.  This was also a prized souvenir for any American GI that could get his hands on one.
